Carers inform your GPs

It is estimated that one in ten patients in every practice is caring for a relative or friend who is sick, disabled or frail and it is usually only a matter of time before the carer becomes ill as a result of neglecting his or her own health needs.

Let your GP know you are a carer - it's important!

Support for Adult and Young Carers

There are about six million carers in the UK. That means every 1 in ten people is a carer.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, a legacy organisation of Carers Trust, is a unique network of 144 independently-managed Carers' Centres, 89 young carers' services and interactive websites (www.carers.org and www.youngcarers.net) which deliver around the clock support to over 424,000 carers and approximately 25,000 young carers.

Young carers

If you or someone in your family has a long term illness or disability, caring duties might be shared out across the family.

So what happens when younger children need to take on some of these responsibilities?

Young carers share experiences

Every year, a Young Carers Festival is held in Scotland. In 2011, the young carers who came to the festival were asked to share their thoughts, the issues they face and their experiences.

This is what they had to say.
