There is one very simple answer, nobody cares once we reach this age. Why should it bother Mps whether we go out or not,and the money is difficult enough to obtain for the younger people too. Nobody gives a damn about us carers lets face it if they did something would have been done by now. We would be better off on the dole, and thats saying something. Words are cheap , help is not, except our help which is free of course

thank you for your reply i totally agree with you it doesnt matter which way you turn no one wants to help, i am my husbands sole carer and dont ask for anything but when you do you seem to hit a brick wall, it really is difficult to know who to ask for help.

Mumalula: Your husband might get Attendance Allowance, but it depends how much the stuff which makes it difficult for him to get about also means he needs assistance (either from a person or from equipment/furntiture), attention, or supervision. Get help filling in the AA form as it can be easy to say things like "I don't need help with fastenings" when you mean "I find fastenings so difficult that I buy t shirts instead of shirts and wear elastric-waist trousers instead of anything with a zip - hence buttons aren't a daily problem for me".

The official reason that 65+ you can't claim for DLA is because it was widely believed that reduced mobility was a natural part of old age (hence the bus pass).
