Mon 28 Apr 2008 10:40Hiya,
council tax benefit is given based on total income so you need to gather all paper work inc; bank statements, recent utility bills, proof of all income, fill out a council tax benefit form from council and when you return it to them they will photo copy all your papers and assess your claim, good luck

Mon 28 Apr 2008 13:00Hi Madmum30!
Your council tax does depend on your income, for instance, does your hubby work?
Also, apart from what EL said, does your disabled child have a shower room/bathroom for his needs? My daughter has her own wet room due to her profound disabilities which took us from a band C to a band D. Not much off the annual amount, but a reduction is a reduction all the same and we have to get what we are entitled to these days!!!!
Good luck with it!

Mon 28 Apr 2008 14:08Hi yes as gingatiossa says you can get a reduction is there have been rooms change for the disabled child/person we got one because we had wet room and that the light swicthes were lowered.
Good Luck

Mon 28 Apr 2008 18:36hi el,
any adaptations to your home, even small changes i think, will give you a discount of around 10% of your bill.if you're on benefits tho you shouldnt pay it anyway.

yes im sure you can get a discount if you have any adaptions to your home. i must admit i thought it was 25% .
have you got an OT? if so ask her to check for you. try welfare rights too they have been brilliant with me. Ive just had to give up work to care for hubby with ppms and i could not have managed without their help.
hope this is some help to you.
best of luck

Re: council tax help
Tue 29 Apr 2008 05:50My information is a few years out of date. A social worker for my parents informed me that you can only get a reduction in your council tax if the adaptions are for an adult. This could even cover the need for the space to store a wheel chair or the need for the space to use a wheel chair in the home.
BUT like everyone else has said on here I would check it out with your local council as they are the ones who are able to give you up to date information on this matter.
good luck I hope it has changed and that it covers all ages.

Tue 29 Apr 2008 21:37I suppose diff councils differ with the amount of discount but you can defo get it for kids tricia cos we used to get it for the boys when we lived in kent as we had a bedroom put on.
it was 10% off which wasnt much but it helped a bit.
