MY ROBOT

Another discussion made me think of a robot I bought on Ebay in January. These things cost an absolute bomb to buy - about £900 when they first came out and they have improved since then.
It is a vacuum cleaner. You set the clock, then programme it to go round the house at the alloted time each day, and when the battery runs out it goes back an plugs itself in and charges itself. I thas already since January paid for itself twice over. With carriage it was £200 - I know it sounds a lot but it is cheaper than a Dyson and actually holds more than some cylinders and sucks better too. It is the same size and shape as those helium balloons saying happy burthday etc. The chap said his son bought it and his wife didn't think she could get on with it and he put it on Ebay and I was the only one willing to try it. Believe you me, I still cannot believe how good it is. When I came back from the week at the hospital the house was clean and there it was recharging itself! You have to keep the floor clear of bits of papers but that's OK and by doing it every day there is not much dirt and it frightens the mice away! (well that was the pest controller) It really works. It was the biggest gamble I made - brand new though, in the packet. It stops when full or tangled, you press the button and it telss you what is wrong - ''remove Rumba's brushes and clean them'' Clean Rumbas left wheel. It is an absolute scream - talking of which, although it doesn't hear you - you can release the tension and tell it off if it misses a bit. It goes under sofas - gets stuck under my wheelchair. Detects extra dust - it goes round in a circle and a blue light flashes and says ''dirt''. You see these things in posh catalogues and think they are a wind-up but this has saved me so much time and money - it has just started up as I write.

Re: MY ROBOT
Sat 12 Apr 2008 20:25I do not have a dog but it copes with all the bits of cotton from my sewing patchwork. It is actually circling my powerchair as I am typing this - it wont go underneath! I don't know about dusting - it might fall off the shelf like me if I try! Believe me it seems like a gift from heaven. If his wife realised just how simple it is to programe - nothing like need to make you read the instructions - she would never have let him sell it. People don't believe me. They think I am pulling their leg. A few times I have had to rescue it from under somewhere but not often and it makes me pick up all the paper I drop. Go into Ebay, someone might be selling one again - I haven't looked, but you need one of at least the fifth edition because they find their way home as the battery goes down and plug themselves in - it even tells you in a little 'tune' when it has. You know I still feel fits of giggles coming up watching it! Having boasted I hope it keeps going! but look how much you pay a home help and do they empty it? This goes in zig-zags backwards and forwards and covers a good area. Of course it is a bit restricted with the result of the tank bursting and building put off! God bless the man who invented it

Re: MY ROBOT
Sat 12 Apr 2008 20:40Just had a thought - perhaps the manufacturer could offfer the trust a couple or three to raffle or raise funds - they are just made forpeople like us. If you cannot bend down to clean it you can 'enocurage' it to go up a slope to a suitable height. Surely they wouldn't refuse the Trust?

Re: MY ROBOT
Wed 16 Apr 2008 12:37OMG Lizzie, I laughed and laughed at your postings.
I can just imagine a little robot thing running round my house being chased by 4 cats, a huge alsation and my two hyper boys lol.
the poor thing would be putting itself up on ebay begging someone to buy him!
or it would be ringing the RSPCTVCR (royal society for the prevention of cruelty to vacuum cleaner robots)but what a laugh that would be and it would save us walking the dog and maybe it would wear the boys out- gawd knows nothing else seems to lol.
Lizzie youve made my day!
