Carers allowance when working

I am thinking of looking for a "small" job to earn a bit more money. If you do happen to earn more than the allowance (£95?) is all your carers allowance taken off you or a part of it? Also what happens if its term time only?

Also my daughter used to get higher rate disability allowance as we had to get up to her 4-5 times a night for severe eczema - we bought her a special eczema suit (looked like a space suit but was great) and she only got up 1-2 time a night then. I told the dla office about us only getting up twice a night - and they then put our allowance down to middle rate. Thinking about this should this have happened as the higher rate money was paying for the special suit which was making her sleep better at £60 a suit - which meant we got less money! If you know what I mean. Smile emoticon

I agree with nat38, if you earn over that limit, even on a pro rata like a TA gets, they'll take the whole lot of carers allowance off you, not a percentage.

It's crazy, you might be earning £2 over the allowed earnings and all your carers allowance vanishes!

If you don't earn enough to pay tax and national insurance, it's mightily important for you to keep that carers allowance for the Class 1 NI contribution!

Look into either a company pension or a private one. You're allowed to take into account half your pension. If that still doesn't take you below the allowed earnings, get some AVCs.

That is so unfair, it should just the amount over the limit that should be taken back. It just makes it not worthwhile woprking!

its really annoying and i think that they should only take a percentage off you. Better still, they should not take it off you at all!! I WANT to work and i am actively trying to improve my chances. But i have to work a set amount of hours because i have to be here to get my duaghter off the school bus. I cannot work a normal 9 to 5 job cos i dont have anyone to help me and hubby does not come home from work until 6.00pm. So i probably wont be any better off. But that does not mean i wont work because i think that doing a job that you really like and enjoy gives you lots of confidence, self esteem etc etc

Just heard on the radio, that us tax payers pay for MP's to furnish their houses!! how unfair is that?!! They earn squillions and we earn peanuts yet we are expected to fund their lifestyle!!
