Benefits

Why are people who live in shared care and have all their care already paid for them still receiving benefits? But senior citizens who go into care homes do not? So many in shared care are saving up to £400 every month and have nothing to spend it on except expensive holidays. When these people in shared care die all that saved benefit money goes to there family who does not care for them. Yet carers still struggle on carers allowance and with luck a little income support. Is this benefits gone mad or what??? Angry emoticon

it will be because all the persons money and inheritences will of been put into trusts ect.......... so that the disabled person is still eligable for benefit and their appontee will have control of it this way all the money is not swalled up in care
this is advised to do by soliciters when wills are set up

I dont know about this one valerie but i know that we have our wills set up that my daughters only get 'small gift' of 10% and the rest in trust for the boys, so they will always have money for things they want like maybe a TV in thier room or so the girls can take them on holidays etc.
the girls understand. our boys are never going to make a wage whereas they will hopefully have good careers and get married etc, so they wont need it like the boys do.
its very complicated and you have to have a solicitor specialising in special needs- i know mencap offer work shops all over the place that you can attend if you want info and they can i think sort out the wills too but think expect some sort of 'gift' too.

Hello lilmis

Contact your DSS to see if you are entitled to top up income support. My daughter use to be her grandmar carer when she was alive at the age of 18 too and got carers allowance and topped up with income support.

She is no longer a carer and now back at college full time and only surviving on a £30 a week adult education grant. So good luck with your college course and hope it puts you in good sted for your future.

take care
