Re: HOLIDAY GRANTS
Tue 20 Nov 2007 18:41As long as your child with the disability is under 16 years you can go to the Rowntree trust who will probably offer help every other year. They will also help in other areas that are not covered by social services. Good luck

Re: HOLIDAY GRANTS
Wed 21 Nov 2007 02:06You can down load the application form for the Rowntree trust who are also known as the family fund from www.familyfund.org.uk you will have to print the application form off and post it or contact the family fund either by phone, email or post to send an application form out to you.
If this is your first application you may have to have a home visit from someone from the organisation. But there is nothing to worry about that when I first applied and had a home visit the person who came was more than helpful in my application. You can apply for up to three items but if you are wanting a holiday break put it as your first choice item
On a slightly different note, I received an email from the family fund a few months back asking for input as they were applying for extra funding so they can up the age limit to 18 years instead of 16 years. If anyone hears if they were successful in their application and if so if they have heard when they are starting to accept applications for chidlren 16 to 18 as well. To let us know on this web site thank you
oh and it can take up to three months at the moment for a response to what they are able to offer you

Re: HOLIDAY GRANTS
Sat 29 Dec 2007 09:40If you get a quote from a company when you apply for your family fund and include it with your application for a family fund aswell as much information as possible - this will help in your application and they are more likely to be able to pay the full amount with a written quote included. Last year I got £695 holiday money although I went with a friend and her two children we both paid half each and shared accomodation. The rest of the money went towards the cost of food and travel expenses - as when we actually went I had to go two day lates - because my daughter was very ill and I could not travel with the severity of her seizures. We almost didnt go - but my friend went on before us - and as I am the one who drives she had to take a train with some of the children. If you do not work and are on income support or job seeker's allowance you can also apply for a community care grant or social fund - the social fund is something you have to repay though in small managable amounts.

Sat 12 Jan 2008 09:02definitely apply for family fund - I just did and they can either arrange your holiday for you or you can get them to give you the amount you need for the holiday - I applied for a self planned holiday this year for £899

Re: HOLIDAY GRANTS
Sat 12 Jan 2008 14:25Marion have you received the full amount from the family fund for your holiday. I was led to believe that they will fund holidays but have a limit to the amount which they will pay out which I think is just under the £400 for a family holidays. Also I am not 100% but you are unable to apply for a holiday every year there is a time limit of a couple of years apart; not sure what the time limit is but am sure they will have details on their website or if you contact them you will find out what their criteria is on funding holidays.
I know you can apply for up to three items on the application form to the family fund which can be applied for once a year. It also depends upon the amount of people who have applied in how much the family fund can allocate to each application too. So if you apply when applications are low you may get all the items which you have requested but if you apply when there is a high level of applications you may only get one or two of the items which you have requested.
Sorry I am unable to predict when there is going to be a low level of applications (I should imagine that does not happen very often now)
Family fund only fund up to the age of 16 on low income but I do know that the family fund were applying for more funds to extend the age limit to 18. I have not heard if they have got this extra funding yet but if anyone has heard of any changes am sure other carers would be interested in finding out......
