MRSA

We are a little puzzled about how to cope with an MRSA infected relative at home.
Despite repeated requests to GP's, health professoinals etc, nobody has given us clear instructions on coping with bodily fluids, washing or the million and one other things that may/may not cross infect.
The hospital my father is in has finally given us a bag that 'melts' in the washing machine but they put his socks in a Tesco bag inside it which totally defeated the purpose.
I might add that they have lost an awful lot of his clothes so we have been washing other peoples clothes too.- There are name tags on them.
Does this infect their washing too?
We wear gloves to handle the washing but have no further information.
Can anyone advise us please?

hi there, when dealing with my late husbands mrsa,i found common sense best,as for advice from the gp or nurses it was non existent, when it came to bodily fluids i always used baby sterilising tablets to clean and soak commodes after use,and to rinse and soak urine bottles.you can buy antibacterial hand gel, hand wash and shower gel, i washed his towels, clothes seperate, we can only do our best to minimise cross infection, when it came to house work i again used baby sterilising tablets i would mop the floors with them,i also made up my own surface cleaner by keeping an empty spray gun and again putting 1 sterilising tablet in it and filling it up with water, this worked out really cheap much much cheaper than buying branded products, just if not more effective,i placed each hand gel at each sink that way everyone had the opportunity to be responsible for their own contribution to minimise cross infection. hope this is of some use to you and others.
