Pressured by Social Services

Our family care for my elderly father who has dementia.
Father has been in hospital for a while now but social services are now telling us that he must go into respite care, despite my father's absolute refusal to go into a "home".
My father spoke to an Independant Avocate to have the social worker who was dealing with his case, removed from his case as he found him very duplicitous. Social worker still appears to be calling the shots.
Our family have had nothing but trouble with social work or whatever it is that they call themselves this week. We have found them lazy and deceitful and obsessed about the contents of my father's bank book.
For them, the easy option is to put the old man in a home which he pays for. End of.
Any social worker reading this- just remember that it is we, the public who pay your wages and we, the carers who are on the receiving end of your little Napoleonic complexes so stop your nonsense, try doing a days actual work and don't try any funny stuff because we are all on to you.

My dad is one of the more fortunate people because he has us to fight for him but I genuinely worry about those who have no voice or those who suffer from confusion etc. I truly believe that they can be bullied or coerced into agreeing to things that they do not understand then they are practically robbed of their savings and shoved in a home.
it is terribly sad when there is no family or anyone to defend them.
social services always say that they are short of money/resources/staff yet they are getting the lions share of state money. Perhaps they want to get their own houses in order before trying to pull rank on the vulnerable.
It looks good on paper if they have many 'self funders' -ergo less from the S.S. budget -
The social workers we have had the misfortune to deal with have been very arrogant, lazy, fact twisting and unpleasant. There would appear to be a lack of common decency and manners too.
They have access to useful information which would be of benefit to the carers but they tend not to release this. How many of us have despaired with a query and then through dogged detective work, found the solution? Relevent information should be given to us straight away. How can we protect vulnerable people from this form of abuse?
How many carers have felt abused by social workers?

Re: Pressured by Social Services
Mon 1 Oct 2007 16:18HI Back Of Beyond sadly there are some who get pressured and there is always someone . who seems to get away with it and for some they need training not only in care but manners so as carers we need to speak out not only for our family but also those who have none/ or their family dont care and thats one reason why the task group for older people was set up in Wolverhampton.
There are some who are caring but its sad they are not all like it and I personally have had not much trouble but that does not say I will never meet one has you have .

Re: Pressured by Social Services
Wed 3 Oct 2007 20:14It does seem to me that what SS are really trying to achieve is to get your Dad out of an NHS bed. They would be under pressure to free up the bed for the sick rather than those that suffer from dementia. That would be there view. Clearly your Dad should be elsewhere & that is what they are trying to achieve.
