What is the Government Policy on Sex Offenders working for Social Services

Hi,
As the Mum of 2 disabled young people I have watched in horror at the emergence of this Governments policy of allowing Sex Offenders to work in schools. I now wonder if this policy is allowed in Social Services "Adult Services". My daughter will be going over to Adult Services in July and as she is Severely Learning Disabled as well as physically disabled and has a mental health problem she would be unable to tell anyone if anything untoward is happening. Does anyone know what the policy is?
Best wishes to all
Sally

l am in the same position as you Sally my daughter is now moved over to adult services and she would be unable to tell me if anything bad happened to her. She really suffers with her periods but l was told by my G.P not to put her on the pill as she would be open to abuse as someone has to administer the pill it would be on her records the would then know if they did do anything to her there would be no consequences so even G.Ps have there doubts about how young people or anyone else with a learning disabilty are looked after it is a huge risk no matter what we do as you have to try and trust someone at somse point in their life

Kind Regards

Hi Jean,
Thanks for your comments. I for one don't intend to sit and wait for something to happen, I am going to e-mail my MP and ask him to find out what the policy is.
With regard to your daughter, mine has had the same problems with her periods so I take her to my GP every 12 weeks or if her behaviour is such that I can't get her there I have the community nurse come out to give her the "Depo" injection. This has stopped her periods completely and no-one is the wiser. My daughter still lives at home so this is quite an easy solution, but even if your daughter is in full time care is shouldn't be a problem to bring her home when you have a doctors appointment.
Best wishes
Sally

My daughter still lives at home with me she is nineteen my own doctor was not keen on injection as Lisa has problems with her gullet and she said the injection would make her prone to weight gain , making her gullet problem worse l just feel it is a catch 22 situation will have a word with her again l think my doctor was thinking about when she goes to respite which she does every 8wks but l will certainly have a word with her thanks for you suggestion

hi

I have a son of 19 who is in transition at the moment, and I worry about him and not just at this age but from the moment he first attended nursery and right through to where he is now . I wouldnt trust anyone with his personal care unless he is comfortable with the person and that includes me too. its not just social services that needs to be looked at, care centres the whole care institutions. Call us overprotective. If we dont protect then nobody else will..

Hi cmm,
I agree there should be a national standard (one that us overprotective mum's/carers can trust). I am still awaiting answers on what is or is not acceptable by Social Services. The fact that no-one can tell me without umming and ahhing makes me very suspicious. But I will post any answer I receive - if I ever receive one here.
Best wishes
Sally

hi sally

What annoys me is these offenders work within the caring community every day, one place we attended the gardeners were supplied by --- services!!!!!!!!!!! if you know who I mean ?who knows what they did??? Do we know who supplies them if there work is being donated (NO)
