Just wanted to say hi to everyone as i've only just joined.
I care for my 89yr old dad who has severe arthritis and short term memory loss. I'm also a single parent forced to live on Income support (as i have to see to my dad several times a day). I do receive carers allowance but its been reduced to £28 because i'm getting income support. My dad won't have anyone from outside agencies to help with his care so i pretty much have to do it all myself. My laptop is my lifeline but i only happened on this site while i was researching getting financial help with my dads care-and failing to find any! Sorry for moaning on my first post Cursing emoticon but I hope you all have a good day. Smile emoticon

Hi Coby and welcome to the site. You feel free to moan if you need to because other carers/ex carers do know how it feels.
Can't help you with financial advice but have you requested a Carers Assessment for yourself? That focuses on the needs of the carer rather than the person they care for.
If you feel up to it why not pop into the chat room some evening, if you can, there's usually somebody around from around 7-30 on. There you can have a moan, a laugh, or just generally enjoy a chat with other carers.
Take care,
Sheila.

Hello it does sound about right about the income support. I claim carers allowance and have it topped up by £30 per week would be an extra £6 approximately but I have a social loan which I pay back out of it weekly.

Shocking is ain't it that we are expected to prove that we provide at least 30 hours of care per week and for many it is 24/7 care which we do for an insult of an allowance/benefit!
