Bus Pass

Medway. I have just received details of my daughters bus pass but it seeems I am not included if I travel outside the local area. This was the case before. They are asking for payment of £75 yearly. They have obviousy put it high enough so people don't apply. My daughter does not travel alone. I think this is bad as if it was not for her I would just take the car.

Hi Simone, I dont know anything about bus passes as i go everywhere by car. but this sounds wrong to me.
How can they expect you to pay that money on carers.
Mind u, i suppose its like petrol and that, still seems high tho for public transport.
cant you query this?
is it means tested?

No I am in Rainham. I can travel to chatham, gillingham, strood which are all 10 - 15 minutes but I wanted to teach Holly the bus but as I don't work this will proof expensive. It is bad.I don't think it is fair as many carers are also worse off then me.

Hi there Simone to what i know what they are doing is not allowed under the new national bus pass scheme there is provision for a companion to travel with the holder of the pass. Did you get a application form and was this on it?
If you have problems check out the web site for your council and it should have the details for the scheme . I had to check because i was told some info about it and found that some was wrong.

The letter has come from the council. They have stated if you go further then the medway towns which the original bus pass covered kent. Then you can go there but have to pay to come back. The reason for this is because they are going o give the bus bus at peak times but this does not help carers who travel with the person.
