Applying to grant making trusts
If you need financial help to buy specific items of equipment, you may wish to approach organisations who provide grants for this particular purpose.
In the past, SIA members have been helped by a number of grant making organisations (see below) with grants ranging from £25 to £500. In most cases, you cannot apply directly for a grant yourself because nearly all the trusts around the country and most of those on this list only accept applications on your behalf from a social worker, other professional or a registered charity. Your local Social Services Department, Citizens Advice Bureau or disabled peoples' organisation may be able to help. The written application should contain your personal and financial details together with the reason why you need the specific item of equipment. Unless stated differently below, the application should be addressed to the Administrator and you should always apply to more than one trust. Each trust will have different individual criteria for providing a grant and you would be wise to check details in reference books at your local library. Look at the end of this sheet for information on doing that. The Buttle Trust
