Just an idea - but Im thinking of organizing a social gathering once a month in Mytchett Community Centre, Surrey - especially for disabled children and adults and their families, the centre is disabled and family friendly. It would be a free event and consist of a disco/karaoke.

Your views would be appreciated

great idea Marion, wish there was something like that here, would u get volunteers to help or would it be like a mums & tots group only 4 special needs? only worry i would have about going 2 a group like that would be if there were kids with challenging behavior [ 4 safety reasons] . otherwise good luck if you go ahead xx

I think it only fair everyone help - but I do have friends I was going to ask to volunteer as helpers.
Anyone who is interested should post a reply and I will get back to you - hoping the first one will be at the end of January or beginning of February.
It isnt just for disabled children - but also older disabled dependants too and their families.

Hi, My son and I live in Middlesbrough.
He use to go to The Orpheus Centre in Godstone,Surrey
If you contact them and ask for John who organises events and works there, he is a mind of information and has many contacts including people like Richard Stilgoe.
I'm sure, they will bend over backwards to help without expecting rewards.
Good Luck,

Hi,
Richard Stilgoe use to play the piano on The Ester Ranzen show, has written shows like Starlight Express and works alongside people like Andrew L Webber. They also arrange shows by the disabled,at places like The Guilford Hall & even the House of Commons.
John could possibly advise on the Insurance side of events like yours and advertise it at some of the events he organises and flyers he has a hand in. He is a wheelchair
user so any meetings would have to be wheelchair friendly.
I have set up a music centre to emulate the services available down south, up here and have found although generally people said they would use it, we have more helpers than users. But we're getting there.

Again, all he best with your venture,

Thanks this is valuable advice - is there an email address for John?

Hi,
My son is wheelchair dependant and uses a liberator for communication. Music is all he lives for and that was why we had him placed at The Orpheus Centre, Godstone, Surrey
Their web site is : www.orpheus.org.uk (Making Music make a difference.) Phone No: 01883 744 664
I'v set our music sessions up at Thornaby Methodist Church in Thornaby, Cleveland and it's based mainly on percussion .
There is a miriad of workshops down south compared to up here.
