Different Carers - Different Pay

I read in today's Sun that carers like Grandparents, Aunts etc who care for children who are related to them are to be paid a minimum of £198. This is on top of Child Benefit and Child Tax Benefit. It is not clear if this is per child or per household. I know of children in this situation. They are at school all day till 6 pm and also in school throughout the school holidays. Therefore they are only being cared for by their kinship carers for about 2 or 3 hours during the week. The couple who have care of these children both work and they have an adult child living in their house who is also working. On top of three wages and Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit for two children they are to be paid at least £198.00. I doubt if there will be any restrictions such as being only allowed to earn £95 per week like there is on our type of carer. I always thought that the greatest thing we could do for our children is to give them our time and attention but apparently it is OK for children in care to be farmed out. We are lucky if we can get anyone to take over our caring roles for an hour a year.
This is discrimination I thinkBeth

Thu 6 Dec 2007 08:33Yes it is discrimination, but you have to realise that 24/7 carers count for nothing, have no benefits or say in how maoney such as that collected on "This Morning " appeal are used. Only those who have the time and energy to shout the loudest get it. Those that really deserve it get nothing. I would never give to a charitable appeal if I could afford to, after seeing this farce being carried out in the limelight. All those stupid celebs appealing , not realising that the peopl e who really need help will never get it. Thats how our benefits are calculated, to keep us in our place.
To anyone who has a nice counsellor out their helping them on the proceeds of a charity , and, those having massages, I wish you every happiness for the festive season. To the rest of us who will see nothing , may you enjoy all the humbug and pity, because its all you will get

Thu 6 Dec 2007 19:23I don't kwo how these benefits are worked out either - it is so unfair. I would like to just let everyone know about the Lions Club Charity. My partner needed a machine called a "motomed" which is basically a static motorised exercise bike that can be used while in a wheelchair. We couldnt afford the £2000 cost but the Lions Club agreed to pay for it straight away-there was no publicity invoved at all. This has helped Mark to slow down spasms, aid circulation and also keep himself a bit fitter and happier. Also the MS Society gives grants to pay for several things including light weight wheelchairs. I know none of us like to take handouts but these charities have this money to give.I would also like to comment on the bit about "those having massages" - I am one of those people who has had one and it gave me a real boost as I cant go out and leave my partner so it was so nice to relax for a while without worrying that Mark was on his own.
I truely hope you have a nice Christmas
