What do you do when you need a carer yourself and you also care for someone who needs help

I'm a whelchair user owing to a spinal complaint and have tried to lead a 'normal' life. Got married had kids etc. 2005 my son had a RTA which has left him using a wheelchair. He did'nt go to a spinal unit as there weren't enough places and has generally had a bad deal from the NHS. I look back to my own experiences with the NHS and 23 years on things don't seem to have changed. With all the money thats being spent I would think that things should have got better.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to get some help.
Eve

Tue 27 Nov 2007 22:24Hi Eve, have you thought about direct payments?, My eldest son has multiple disabilities and i have always cared for him on my own, however i myself got very ill in 2001 and both children had to go into foster care, when i came out of hospital after 12 months i got onto direct payment scheme as i was wheelchair dependant - this has given me the freedom to get both boys out of care and back home with me, the PAs see to our needs and works very well for us.
hope it gives you food for thought
