My husband may go into respite care for one week,

Hi Av,

The CA Unit have just sent me a response to your question - here it is:

If this is your husband's first respite stay then DLA/CA should not stop.

If the place of respite has medically trained staff Carer’s Allowance can allow up to 4 weeks ‘break in care’. DLA will be suspended after 28 days.

There are certain circumstances where DLA/CA are temporarily stopped due to respite breaks and this could be because either the respite break occurs within the first 22 weeks of DLA being awarded or there have been previous breaks in care.

If you'd like further info specific to your husband's DLA or your CA, you can also telephone the DLA helpline on 08457 123 456 or the Carer’s Allowance Unit on 01253 856123.

Hope this helps,

Michele
