Carers' Skills

The Carers' Skills Programme is made up of short courses in subjects such as Computing, Creative Writing and Assertiveness, and also individual sessions which offer a taster of various relaxation techniques and complementary therapies. There are also courses in crafts, first aid, back care and legal matters. This programme incorporates Carer Awareness training – enabling and supporting carers to attend student nurse lectures to talk about their experiences as carers. The carers interact with the students to raise the profile of carers and highlight the importance of the carer’s role when the person cared for is admitted to hospital.
