Back Care Service
Our Back Care Workers are qualified practitioners who give advice on safe ways to move disabled adults and children. The Back Care Service aims to reduce the incidence of back pain and muscular-skeletal problems brought about by the physical stresses of caring for a disabled or sick person in the home. They achieve this by teaching carers, either individually or in groups, about moving and handling techniques and by making sure that the health and safety of carers is fully considered in assessment for services.
Back Care Workers can liaise with Occupational Therapists about aids, equipment and adaptations that might be needed. They can help the carer to find suitable equipment to avoid injuring themselves and have a limited supply of small items of equipment for carers to try at home, and long term loan. Back Care Workers can also help with applying for equipment through Social Services.
