The Princess Royal Trust Carers Service (Berkshire)

Carers in the spotlight at annual meeting

Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Councillor Michael Scott will be among guests who will learn more about the work of the Princess Royal Trust Carers Service at its annual general meeting on Tuesday (September 26).

The meeting at WAMDSAD, Braywick Sports Ground, Maidenhead, will also hear Karen Mustard, Development Manager for the Carers Service in Windsor, Maidenhead and Ascot, outline the service available to local carers, including young carers.

Other guest speakers will be Ed Thompson, Joint Commissioning Manager for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and Soline Jerram, Consultant Nurse at St Mark’s Hospital, who will explain about the unique Carer Preparation Course run locally and which is due to be recommended for a Health and Social Care Award.

Penny Henrion, chief executive, said the annual meeting was a chance for carers and professionals to hear about the wide-ranging work of the service.

“She said: “Many people do not see themselves as carers. They think of themselves as family members or friends, which means they often do not realise there is help and support available to them.

“Our service gives carers the opportunity to find out about what can be done to support them in their caring role.”

The Princess Royal Trust Carers Service is based at Highview, North Road, Maidenhead, and gives free advice to unpaid carers on issues such as benefits and accessing statutory services. It also publishes a quarterly newsletter for local carers. Learning opportunities are available through the First Steps project run in partnership with the Community Council for Berkshire.
