A Carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a friend, neighbour or relative who could not manage otherwise because of frailty, illness or disability.

There are 250,000 Carers in Northern Ireland. Many do not think of themselves as such. I am …wife, husband, parent, son, daughter or friend. Consequently, many do not take up proper entitlement to the range of benefits and ancillary services available to and for Carers. Equally it is often difficult to admit that caring for a loved one can be hard. Carers suffer added stress, exhaustion, and poverty. At the Belfast Carers’ Centre help is there.

Caring can be a positive and life-enhancing role provided Carers receive the proper information, support and advice they need. Since 1997 the Belfast Carers’ Centre, at the very heart of Belfast, has provided a range of services, bursaries, benefit checks, social programmes, other support and a welcome to Carers and those working with and for them. Ask yourself again. Do I look after somebody else? Am I a Carer? If yes; please call us and we can help you.
