Time for Carers
The Time for Carers Scheme provides grants to carers to help get a break from caring and / or to offer appropriate support for the person cared for.
Some examples of what carers can use grant for include:
- Therapies / Relaxation
- A weekend break
- A Holiday
- A college course
- An evening class
- A social evening
The scheme is for people who provide substanial and regular care (practical and / or emotional support) on an unpaid basis to a relative, friend or neighbour including children with a disability for an average of 35 hours per week.
Carers do not have to be living with the person for whom they care. The grant is limited to one per household.
Former carers can apply up to a year after they cease caring.
Carers can be of any age.
To apply for the grant an application form must to completed and forms can be downloaded from the publications section of our website. Fully completed applications that meet the criteria will be assessed by an allocation panel consisting of carers and professionals who meet on a monthly basis.
Carers apply for the grantmust have an agent for their application. An agent should be a professional eg carer support worker, CPN, social worker, day centre worker etc. The agent must state their support for the grant.
Carers can receive up to £350. The funds available are limited so successful applicants can only normally reapply after 3 years.
Carers must provide receipts as proof of expenditure and complete a Report Back form.
If the grant is not used within 12 months it must be returned and carers can reapply for funding at a later date.
Carers need to have access to a bank account to deposit payments in.
