Princess Royal Trust Tower Hamlets Carers Centre

Financial Services Authority funds work for Carers

More good news for Tower Hamlets Carers.

Carers tell us that being forced to live on a low income whilst caring puts enormous strain on them, particularly when they may have no choice but to incur extra costs whilst carrying out their caring tasks. For example, many will have to pay for additional travel costs, having to use expensive heating all year round, treatment for a disabled child (speech therapy, physiotherapy)additional laundry costs etc. It is not unusual for carers to have to make the choice between heating and eating.

The FSA is funding this project for a year, enabling us to employ a worker to work with carers to help them take control of the finacial implications of being a carer and to actively manage their finances.

This could involve dealing with existing debt difficulties, shopping around for better deals from suppliers, reclaiming bank charges, opening a bank account, developing a budget etc. In fact, the advisor could help with practically anything to do with finance except for Welfare Benefits. (We now have our own full time Welfare Benefits Adviser who deals with this aspect of being a carer)
