Dr Checinski is Senior Lecturer in Addictive Behaviour at St George’s Hospital Medical School, London and Consultant Psychiatrist with the Respond NHS drug and alcohol team in Surrey. He trained in Cambridge and London and now has responsibility for innovative community services for substance misusers. He has developed intensive and assertive outreach approaches to difficult-to-engage individuals with complex problems. He has supported the development of extensive primary care-led addiction services.
Come and join us on Thursday 8 May where you can meet Dr Checinski online and chat or ask questions on drug and alcohol issues affecting you or the person you care for.
He was a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists group examining stigma as part of that college’s Changing Minds campaign. He was actively involved in the Partners in Care campaign and now convenes and chairs the Addictions Faculty User and Carer Liaison Group.
Dr Checinski's research interests include developing innovative treatments for substance misusers and evaluating the impact of training in addictive behaviour. He is an enthusiastic teacher and speaker, having contributed to a number of national and international conferences. Relevant publications include a book on dual diagnosis (with Peter Rorstad) and a chapter on treatment models.
