NHS Next Stage Review: Leading Local Change
Today Lord Darzi released ‘Leading Local Change’ - the latest report which is part of the wide-ranging NHS Next Stage Review.
The Princess Royal Trust for Carers welcomes the clear statement in the review that carers will be involved whenever changes are planned in local NHS services.
Carers have long been hidden contributors to health services, with 1.2 million caring for more hours than a full time job. These carers should be recognised as ‘partners in care’ by health professionals, but often feel taken for granted. Therefore it is vital that their involvement in health services is no longer seen as an optional extra.
We are pleased that Lord Darzi has taken an increased interest in how the NHS supports carers in the review and we call for this to be put into practice across all local health trusts.
