I suffer from migraine, had one for days on end now & can't get rid of it. It's like someone's got hold of my eye at the back & squeezing it. All I get of the docs is painkillers. Any ideas?

Re: migraine?
Sat 27 Jun 2009 14:52hi ena,
I used to suffer with migrain badly too.
The thing that used to help me the most was actually a bag of frozen peas, just put it where the pain hurt the most, bit like the old fashioned ice pack.
hope this helps you, cos i know there is nothing worse than migrain.
all the best

Re: migraine?
Sat 27 Jun 2009 17:17Mum suffered badly with them until in her mid thirties she met someone on her way home with one, having had to leave the hairdressers midway through a set, who was a faith healer. She asked if she could help and came home with her - she put a charcoal tablet on her tongue and massaged her neck and she NEVER had another one. Just recently since Hubby became Paraplegic I remember she told Mum about a Paralysed man who was cured by faith healing - perhaps we should look into it?

Re: migraine?
Sat 27 Jun 2009 19:33Hi Ena
you have my sympathies; used to get them every month! A couple I was hospitalised for as they thought I was having a brain heamorrhage!
Terrible things and so dibillitating.
Have you checked your diet?Mine are always made worse (or even caused sometimes) by the thickening agent in sauces such as in chinese food. Mono glutamate I think it's called.
Also oranges and chocolate.
I try and avoid those things at certain times, especially the mono glutamate and go for drier chinese food for example. Also try and sip water as dehydration makes them worse. Although some Ive had, if water so much as touches my lips I vomit, but one other thing; try and take the tablets as soon as you feel one coming. My mistake was to always try and be brave and then it'd be too late.
A mate of mine went to an eosteopath I think it was and they rubbed her neck etc and she never got another one!The tablets the dox give you need changing after w hile cos they only seem to work for a while, a bit like hay fever tablets.
Migraleve dont do it for me!

Re: migraine?
Sat 27 Jun 2009 22:10That was good Kerry - I was there with you experiencing the migraine! Shall I drink? Good for dehydration. Will I be sick though? Oh no I've got a migraine!!! Does Ena eat a lot of Chinese food??? Anyway Ena I think the consensus is dont be brave and rub your neck - its worked for two people we know of!
Confused? You will be!

Re: migraine?
Sun 28 Jun 2009 22:35Hi Ena, I do sympathise, I get them very badly and was put on beta blockers (also for my heart) but they only make my migraines worse. I now have something called ALMOGRAM, it's amazing, the first time in 26 years a pill that works (so far). I have such debilitating migraines, I am useless and sick, and delerious, the pain is always the right side and like you my eye. It feels like my eye is on fire and has sand in it, my neck cramps up and I dribble! Another tip to ease it may help you to put a hot (as much as you can bear) wet flannel over the affected part of the head, I have sat over the sink for over an hour continually pressing it on my face and ear area, it has got rid of milder migraines. Also I blow a hair dryer against thast side of my face and neck, moving it back and forth so it feels like the hot air is massaging those areas. Something else, is 4Head, a natural product, it's very good over the brow area.
Good luck, hope it helps,
Sue

Re: migraine?
Tue 30 Jun 2009 09:14Migraine is horrible, over the years I've tried loads of different remedies . What worked for me was advice passed on by my GP from a specialist, neurologist I think, who had been conducting trials on different migraine treatments. I started taking low dose 75mg aspirin, it took a while to work but gradually the migaines became less intense, and eventually no more migraine, I haven't had one for years.

Re: migraine?
Tue 30 Jun 2009 12:23My dad suffered with them terribly - vomiting etc. He used to stay in bed with the windows blacked out for 4 days at a time and we had to walk on tiptoes. Not the ideal solution when you are a carer as you can hardly go to bed in our situation. We did find out that certain foods as has been suggested could trigger these attacks like cheese. Also stress was a key factor. Maybe some foot massage or alternative health remedies would be a possible idea.
