carers assessment web site

I have often spoken to carers in the chat room who have asked what is involved in a Carers Assessment. If you look on the web link below it gives you a list of what is involved in a carers assessment. Also towards the bottom of the page is a link where you can find out what is the Carers Assessment process for your own local area.

www.direct.gov.uk

I have also heard that many of you have had carers assessment and then say nothing is done from this assessment. However, if everyone decided not to have an assessment it would increase the risk of it being withdrawn as we all know what happens to things which are not used. A Carers Assessment is a very useful tool in demanding what your needs are once it has been completed and gives you eveidence of what you as a carer's needs are.

Hi Tricia

You're quite right about Carers Assessments.

But they do serve another purpose that most social workers don't know about - they are supposed to include a plan in case of emergencies where, for whatever reason, you cannot continue caring: this could be a short-term, long-term, or permanent situation. It should be a part of your assessment.

I must say that my "carers assessment" was great.I am a carer for my mentally ill son.I was given a mobile phone because my son needs to be able to be in contact with me if we are apart.I was also supplied with a computer cos mine had broken and Pc was my way of contact with outside world. that is lovely to share some good news valleygirl about carers assessment as we often get such negative reviews off carers about carers assessments.
