There are many carers out there who find themselves in not knowing which way to turn when faced with an educational issued for a child who they care for.
The Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) have a web site which has a help phone line for any parent/carer who finds themselves looking for advice relating to their child's educational needs:
ACE also offer a free exclusion pack along with frequently asked questions a jargon page which explains many common educational terms. There is also a discussion forum for if you would like to share your experiences with other parents.
Also every parent/carer should have access to a Parent Parntership Officer who is able to support parents/carers through education for children with additional needs. Especially at a time when there are many changes going on relating to allocating additional support for those in mainstream school. You can find out who your local Parent Partnership officer is usually through you local council web site under education.
If anyone else has any other information on where to seek information relating to education issues relating to a child with additional needs would you please let me know
Thank you

Re: education advice web site
Sun 10 Feb 2008 22:19Hi Tricia
Another one that Ive used is SNAP (special needs advisory panel). I used them for an issue to do with one of my boys at school although I cannot for the life of me remember what the issue was lol. Too many things going on all the time.
However, i do remember that they were very supportive and can act as a sort of advocate in SEN meetings and the like.
Im sure theyll also have a website address if you google them.Kerry

Mon 11 Feb 2008 11:21Thanks Kerry
Have passed that information onto others who I know.
I have looked on the web site and even though it is Essex based it offers a great directory which will be helpful to anyone around the UK.
Thanks

Re: education advice web site
Mon 11 Feb 2008 22:19I know that the Parent Partnership Officer is avaialbe to all parents in England but not sure what they are called in Scotland and Wales or if they have them there.
But useful to know that SNAP maybe available nationally if you were able to access them in Wales. It was just on the web site they said they were an Essex charity organisation so probably me who has gone my wires crossed............ nothing new there on that one with me!
