Wed 21 Nov 2007 18:24To start with has your Mum had a Carer's Assessment? Even if your gran is not in favour of one for herself, your Mum is entitled to one for herself - info on it on this website at - www.carers.org
Also check out the link below as it has lot of useful info if you haven't done it before.
www.direct.gov.ukIs she registered as a Carer with her GP so they are aware? Some GP's have special Carers info packs with useful contacts and info
On this website - Old Age -
www.carers.org
Alzheimers and Dementia -
www.carers.orgOther benefits you should check out -
Carer's Allowance - www.carers.org
Attendance Allowance - www.carers.org
-contact your local CAB to make sure your Mum and Gran are getting all the benefits you are entitled to.This one might also help - Alzheimers Society - lots of useful factsheets on all forms of dementia (my father has been diagnosed with vascular dementia -had it for last six/seven years),
www.alzheimers.org.ukI'm sure there are other Carers out there who will be posting more info as well.
Take Care

Wed 21 Nov 2007 18:28Hi Lucy
Firstly your Mum needs to get a care manager, your Uncle may already have one. She also needs an assessment of her own needs. Your uncle should be able to get respite care which will take some pressure off occasionally. I don`t know where your Gran went for respite but I would try again at maybe different place. Try a couple of hours to start off with. The pressure your Mum is under is going to get worse as your Gran deteriorates, but I`m sure you know that already. Get your Gp on side. There is help out there but you need to know where it is. Contact your local PRT. Hope things work out.....Regards ValerieN
