Card-carrying Carer

Is there a recognised 'Carer Card'?

If I pop out to the shops and get run over by a bus, is there something I can carry which says, in the case of an emergency, I care for....at this address....with these needs...please contact, etc.

I can make something up for myself, I just wonder if there's a recognised scheme in place.

Hi not sure about an official set-up but I always have a card in my purse from Carersuk.
It's my membership card so I guess they'd know I'm a Carer if anything happened.

I have a local council 'Carers Emergency Card' which says on it 'I care for someone who relies on me. in the event of my illness/accident ring *** and quote ref number: **** they will know what to do. I carry it in my purse.
Hope you manage to get one from your local council.

I thought it seemed like a good idea!

I've been registered as my Dad's carer with the local council, but they've not mentioned anything like this card scheme to me as yet. Will look into it. Thanks!

Update: our social worker hasn't heard of it...maybe not all local authorities run a scheme.

My local council has a card where I can put two contacts in case anything happens to me. If you can't get an official card, why not make up your own - but remember no names or addresses re safety and security - a piece of white card laminated -some stationers sell self-laminating sheets of varying sizes you could use to pretect it?

i need a bed!!!
ot and the carer group, have both told that i get a grant and i dont have to pay back.i had a loan of the social fund and normally that you cannot reapply if your up to there limit of borrowing.
Ot says if you need an item for a specific thing ,then you can request it and get a grant to go out and buy it and not pay it back.
So im going to apply and hopfully i can get me bed!!!
community care grant is the form u ask for..

On uk .gov site,it says some councils offer a voucher to help towards a holiday and respite, but dont this avaliable nationally.

My local council does indeed have such a scheme: the card carries contact details for a Carers Emergency Scheme run by a 24/365 Community Alarm Service. They hold names of emergency contacts / keyholders and in the event of an emergency will "contact family / friends to inform them of what has happened, contact the person being cared for, check that the person's support needs are being met, and arrange emergency help as required."
