hi all,
i don't know how well publicised this is. i only stumbled across it myself loking for something else.
it's an online consultation that is ongoing until sometime in september regarding the new deal for carers.
the web address is:
anyone can put across ideas to improve the lives of carers.
according to the interim findings in july, nearly 10,000 visits were made to the site with 584 postings up untll that point.
the main issues highlighted so far have been;
carers allowance and financial assistance,
respite for carers, recognition for carers,
emotional and practical support,
support for young carers and former carers,
housing issues,
challenging the stigma of caring,
raising awareness and profile of carers.the website is still live and you can post your ideas until september. not sure of the cut off date though.

Re: ideas tree
Thu 16 Aug 2007 15:17Hi Dru - regrettably , it also passes for what the government would claim is " Consultation with carers ".
The figures speak for themselves - 584 out of 6 million carers. That would make it 1 in 10,273 ( rounded down ). Just think , the future of 6 million could be decided by just what is input over there.
Somewhat encouraging ?

Thu 16 Aug 2007 15:49Hi all, for those that aren't aware, as part of the same consultation there are 9 regional events being held in September and October - more details are available here: www.carers.org .

Re: ideas tree
Thu 16 Aug 2007 16:03Thanks Michelle , news of which has been made available on other forums.
Is it to be 10 \ 11 carers per meeting ( say 100 in all ) ? Or , as mentioned elsewhere , upto 150 per meeting , making 1,350 carers in total.
Out of X million ?
Any moves to ensure mix of carers ( eg. lone 24 \ 7 , part time \ elderly \ disabled etc.etc. ) reflects on the X million ?
Otherwise , the stats sampling will be flawed , and when that's projected to represent X million , the results revealed could damage carers even more than having no stats in the first place.

Re: ideas tree
Thu 16 Aug 2007 17:22out of the 9 regional events, there are none in Scotland I have my theories as regards this, but would be to contreverisal to mention mention on a public board.
With postcode lottery implications I hope those doing the presentations during the road show adjust the script accordingly. Divide & Conquer is the oldest trick in the book, has many guises but rarely fails.

Re: ideas tree
Thu 16 Aug 2007 17:43Have no fears.
New Labour are in charge , and everyone reading this Post can judge them for their excellent record on carers.
After all , it's not as if the results will be massaged in any way ..... will they ?
