I do hope I'm allowed to do this, I am currently having tremendous problems with my local mental health hospital. Policies apparentely changed two years ago and to say that the care my schizophrenic husband receives has gone down is a massive understatement.
I am just about to make an official complaint after having complained "unofficially" and have witnessed a greater amount of suicides among the mentally ill in this area during the past one to two years. As just one person I am not being listened to so would like to be "armed" with statistics that the hospital would rather I DIDN'T have.
I have to do something rather than sitting worrying whether my husband and/or I will be among the growing statistics just because we are not being listened to or given adequate care. Knowledge is power!
I look forward to hearing from anyone in my area that is or has had similar problems.

Wed 19 Nov 2008 00:51The recent cluster of suicides in one of the Welsh valleys by young people with no history of mental illness shows how difficult it is to draw useful conclusions from variations in the suicide rate.
Women used to be the most likely victims of suicide back in the 1950's, but now it is younger and middle aged men. Alcohol is often a factor.
That said, the overall trends in suicide rates - having peaked in about 2002, are now going down. Nobody really knows why - its a mystery.
