Hi
Has anyone in receipt of D L A had a letter from the D W P?
informing them that from November 25th D L A is to be paid four weeks in arrears!!! what a farce, what are people going to manage on till then fresh air. I rang the number on the letter and told them there is no way I can afford to help my Daughter as I am on a state pension, I was informed that
if being paid in arrears causes hardship they will look into going back to weekly payments. Just thought you all might like to be made aware of what is happening.

Sun 9 Nov 2008 21:49No I have not recieved any letter of this nature. I already get it paid into the bank every four weeks but don't know if it is in advancement or in arrears.
I hope they don't plan to do this just before Christmas as it would too cause me great problems financially.

Re: DLA
Mon 10 Nov 2008 15:19alice, do you have your daughters dla paid weekly? What they probably mean is that all the people who have their payments made weekly will now go to four weekly payments. I have my daughters paid in four weekly payments as i was unaware that you could have it paid weekly. But, you are right, what are people going to do if they have it paid weekly? eat fresh air?

Re: DLA
Mon 10 Nov 2008 18:10When my OH was awarded DLA four years ago we were offered it four weekly in arrears or quarterly (ie13 weeks) in arrears.
We kicked up a fuss as if we had agreed to the four weekly payment they wanted to make his pension credit four weekly too and we could not manage without money for almost a month. We stuck to our guns and the DLA, pension credit and my CA are all still paid weekly.
I think they tried to change it to four weekly when we moved last January, but again we pleaded hardship and it was never altered.
Thanks for the warning, will watch the post!
Take care

Re: DLA
Mon 10 Nov 2008 18:25I did not know you could get it paid weekly either.
My boys both get high rate care and mobility, I get one lot one tues and the other lot the following tues, but due to nature of it changing date every month it does not always tie in with bills coming out.for example, if it comes on the same week as the mortgage, great, but other times it is in different weeks. The mortgage is on a particular date every month so we have some weeks where were are more skint than other weeks.
Same with all the DDs like water and council tax etc.
But I have become very adept at juggling things lol, like most women and definately most carers!dunno whether it's in arrears or not, probably is. The only thing not paid in arrerars are when we owe money- even council tax is two months in advance which really pees me off....
"Ok we are gonna come and empty your bins in March but can you pay us in January?"
Just imagine if we went up to employewrs and said "Ok I'll do a bit of work in March but I want me wages in January!!!!"
Yeah right.

Re: DLA
Mon 10 Nov 2008 22:10Hi
My Daughter's D.L.A is paid weekly at the moment, as she is an adult I cannot use her money to pay household bills or any thing like that, she has to pay for her keep and that is all, I am only her appointee. According to her social worker if I spent her money
without her consent that would be classed as fraudulent use of her money, same old song abuse of a vunerable adult.

Re: DLA
Tue 11 Nov 2008 08:47oh dont they get on your nerves !!. What if the person is too mentally incapicitated to speak properly let alone give consent as to how their money is spent ? The money is there to look after them and provide food and warmth for them. I wish they would all stop treating us as if we were complete fools
