Sun 31 Aug 2008 19:05I entirely agree Sam_B............
I can't remember when carers have had such a high profile across the media spectrum. As far as aggiebaggie's comments are concerned about carers getting the same income as foster carers : I'm sure we all agree with them. However we must use this new 'higher profile' to concentrate on the attainable rather than the unattainable.

Re: Carers 'need more financial help'
Fri 5 Sep 2008 16:41I find it abhorrent that the the report's recommendations would put us on a par (benefit-wise) with those on JSA. What those in power chose to ignore is that we're already employed, and should thererfore be in receipt of the National Minimal Wage at he very least. What a joke!

Re: Carers 'need more financial help'
Sat 6 Sep 2008 11:03But isn't this what was wanted? I mean there was a call that Carers Allowance was not fit for purpose after all. Did anyone really expect the NuLabour lot to suddenly give carers a decent income?

Re: Carers 'need more financial help'
Tue 9 Sep 2008 08:57I agree with marie66 - more chance of ice forming in hell!
We are such an undervalued part of society - wall, banging head against springs to mind!
Why won't anyone in authority listen to us? Time to March on Number 10, the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly I think taking the people we care with us!
Does anybody actually know how many carers there are out there? I would be really interested to know the exact figures- not just those who receive CA but the others who receive no financial help.
Is it time we formed a Trade Union because I am beginning to feel slightly militant!!

Re: Carers 'need more financial help'
Wed 10 Sep 2008 06:24i agree as well ..
i just don't think we will get a thing .. apparently they have 3 months to come up with a solution ( i think ) ..
it would be nice though , if they do start to value carers ( non-payed & payed ) ..
something needs to be done and its just going on and on and on ..
so if it is 3 months we should here about november / december ..
what i don't get is this 2 tier system ..
i care for my son who suffers from autism , i don't work , im a paid carer .. what am i classed as 24/7 or just a 35 hour a week carer ..
i also agree we do need to put up a fight about this , the goverment has put us under the carpet for far to long now .. they just keep putting us off every year ..
us carers we need help , we don't want help in 3 years we want help now .. NOW !
see you from kerry ..

Thu 11 Sep 2008 23:01We should at least get the extra heating allowance as the pensioners do.My hubby feels the cold far more than I do and \I guess most of our carees do. With the price of heating going through the roof and no extra money, how on earth are we going to survive the winter.Seen Gordon Browns new policicy...ROFL

Re: Carers 'need more financial help'
Sun 14 Sep 2008 13:44Just started my interviews for my dissertation- have done 8- that's enough to get the general idea that all carers are asking for the same thing.
One question I asked is what carers would say to Gordon Brown. And all said the same things e.g.
Let him have my child/ren for the week/month
More recognition
less stigma
liveable wage (CA)
A proper title.
