The legality of caring.

Okay any legal brains out there take note. Is it legal to be a carer??????? The goverment give us an allowance so in effect they are paying us to care but the hours we work are inhuman and so are the conditions, no lunch or tea breaks, sometimes not even a loo break if it's a bad day. Health destroyed by illegal lifting, bad backs, knees and elbows let alone the rest so do we have a case can we demand Care for the Carers? I bet if we knew where to look we could find the case to take it further. I have read so much saddness on this site it hurts.Something must be done to help these people.................So I challange you what is the best way for us to be heard let alone respected for what we are and what we do. Hi All

Carerwatch are discussing carers forming a Carers Union as are other forums.

Carerwatch jioned by National Carers Forum, Carers Voices, Justice for Carers emailed MP's and other organisations regarding carers disatisfaction with the governments Carers Strategy.

In April Carerwatch sent a submission to the DWP Select Committee. The Select Committee are due to publish a report stating its findings from all of the submissions sent in.

The carerspovertyprotest forum are involved with organising a Protest March. They have emailed and are in contact with several Carers Centres around the country.

Justice for Carers are in contact with a soliciter and are holding a meeting to look into taking the government to court.

Carers need to beome more active in speaking up for themselves, by doing so it helps the charities to campaign on our behalf too. Not everyone has the time or inclination, but if you do come and join us, or read what is going on.

We are staging a Protest!
With the backing of carer centres all over the country, with charity backing and with the backing of many individual carers Big grin emoticon

Carers everywhere have had enough of fine words and no action from this government.
The only action so far is to pour money for carers where it will do least good (i.e. money for admin for all involved in implementing the 'carers strategy' that does nothing for carers).
The cost of everything is going up, while we have little or no chance to increase our income to cope. The only increase we get is in our stress levels.

And now there is talk of carers allowance being abolished and putting carers on jobseekers. If the government had listened they would know we are already working.
And if, as they say at the moment, carers will not be forced to seek employment to keep their money, why not make carers allowance a liveable benefit in the first place?
All this added worry and stress is enough to push some beyond their limits of endurance.
