First iv'e heard of it bet i wont see any it it either Yes emoticon £150 million aint gonna go too fat besides i couldn't get any use of it as i couldn't have a break away from my son cause who would look after him? i would rather they put the money to build a large complex only to be used by carers and there families big enough to house 10/20 families at any one time so we could all meet, share, and enjoy together, also the kids could mix with 'there own kind' and feel comfortable in there surroundings Yes emoticon now that would be money well spent as a SMALL charge per family as well as the yearly grants from the government would ensure the running costs were met Yes emoticon just imagine a lovely little village(but not stepford type) with a secluded beach just for us Mmmmmmmm

If they give money only the fat cats will see it, a bit like the collection on this morning for carers. Anybody seen any of it? Have asked the question before, but it is either sent to the end and off the board ord answered by the fact we are getting trained people to talk to us. That is I suppose dependant on whether we can get to a carers centre ( which I cant) and what would we talk about..... How to get some sleep when there is no respite, how to protect yourself from being attacked on the premise that we are not allowed to defend ourselves heaven help if we hold our caree and they get a bruise, but we can get bitten or scratched or pinched and thats fine. Money given to help carers is just one big con and the sooner we all realise it the better

I agree with you mo, i have scrached and bruised Adam while restraining him but where needs must so the those who know nothing of what we carers have to go through or put up with can f*** off Cursing emoticon Adam's psychologist knows only too well how we can mark our kids/caree's trying to help them and has told me if i ever get questioned about it she would back me up. As for the money..... the fat cats get fatter we get sweet FA Cursing emoticon Cursing emoticon Cursing emoticon

The £150 million is yet another con trick to fool the public into thinking carers are well looked after.
The money is to be given to local councils to supposedly double the respite care for us. No doubt as usual councils will appoint new managers to administer this extra money--so most of it will go there.
At present the rate given for respite only covers about1/3 of what respite actually costs- and that is if you can find a respite place that you would even put your dog in.
The whole strategy was a big con-and why were the charities the only ones to welcome it??-- because they were the only ones to benefit from it as usual.
Very little if any money ever comes to actual carers- only to the organisations who are kept in funds by the Government to fool the public that we are well looked after

SO... how do we find out where this money goes?
Does it go to carer groups who then decide who is worthy/in most need etc. Cos if that is the case, how about all those who do not belong to carers groups?

As for a complex; Elaine, Ive been saying this for years. In fact was talking to my two mates when on holidays last week in spain, about how nice it would be to have a place, maybe a resort, where we could all take our families, disabled and siblings, where no one would bat an eyelid when they kicked off, got anxious, got over excited at the disco etc etc.

WHEN i win the lottery I have already decided I am going to buy a huge piece of land about 10 acres, build purpose built chalets, complete with all facilities for disabled and their families, have soft/light/dark rooms inside, plus all animals outside, inc horse riding, babysitting so parents can go out to the pub for a evening, have trained carers to help with the kids and the facilities, have medical practice on site, stocked up with everything one may need for ones child/ren, have quad bikes and other stuff for the more able bodied, and so on and so on....
oh yeah also have on site massuese, beautician, hair dressers, etc etc.

and it would all be free to families of kids with disabilities.

How does this sound? Smile emoticon

It has been claimed that this money is being used for short break care. The evidence came from the recent Carers consultation asking what carers wanted.

From my experience the most answered question to what carers want has been more finances in order for them not to struggle financially in our every day lives.

Yet this area has not been addressed and I doubt it ever will be addressed enough to pull us carers out of the poverty trap which most of us face in our daily lives.

Also welcome to our world those who are on a livable income and are wondering if they should heat their homes or feed themselves this coming winter with the threat of gas and electric bills going up by 60% according to the Daily Mail news headlines today!
