Blue Badge scheme ,sadly lacking in Nottingham

I wrote saying how I had had a parking ticket issued although the blue badge was showing. My caree was being looked after by her niece to give me a short break and she had a seizure and was unable to return to the car before 4.30pm when its use changed for unloading. My epilepsy nurse offered a letter to explai that she would be unable to walk and the Nottingham Council ignored the offer and still demanded the fine. Needless to say next time I will request an ambulance and she will be left with them alone to be taken to hospital, which will cost the local area a lot more money than a parking fine, use a lot more resources that could be saving someones life. but my niece would have been able to get back to the car alone and leave. The Nottingham council had spent money taking pictures of the car and a completely empty unloading bay, so the car was not hindering anyone. May I wish upon those people who did this, epilepsy and many parking tickets, I now cannot afford to buy any food this week so what do we live on any suggestions??? I could not expect my niece to fund it as she was doing the care like me for nothing. Just how much longer do we carers have to stand being treated like people in a third world country. I feel like putting her into care and working as a carer then I could eat and pay my bills without all this stress, oh yes and actually learn what sleep is.!!!

I would appeal. I had to run after my severely Autistic son who ran off when I parked in Peterborough without time to put the badge on - no choice! When I got back I had been ticketed. I went straight round to the police station who sent a note to the ticketing people explaining. I received a stern warning not to do it again - I ignored the inappropriateness of it and gratefully accepted the let off!
If they won't listen then go to your local M.P.
There are reasons why Blue Badges are issued to some people which are not just for Arthritic knees and which inevitably will result in unavoidable parking errors.
Good luck Smile emoticon

I have e mailed my MP, not holding my breath, although it would save me a lot of stress and worry thinking about it. It is a complete farce, I know a woman who has a wrist that "hurts " and she has a blue badge. What on earth that has with walking and how on earth can she drive? Does nobody ask these questions. My caree is also autistic which is an added problem, I very often feel like I cant go on with all the worries, and fear that I will die long before her as I have things that need addressing medically and cant get them done, as she wont even go inside the doctors surgery. Still at least I will get a bit of peace then. thanks for your answer though

Well done for trying. If you get nowhere you could always email your local CAB office. You are not alone in worrying about the future - we all do. I have no answers other than to try and make my sons as happy as they can be one day at a time.
You must get your health issues looked at. Why don't you ring the surgery and explain why you can't get there? We have had problems with our youngest son where the surgery waiting room is claustraphobic and people stare but once I explained they were very understanding and let us go straight through to wait by the GPs rooms. I'm sure they will help and,if not, you should change surgeries.
Please don't give up - you are not alone. Smile emoticon

If I had given up I would have been gone a long time ago. I know I am not alone but thank you for your kind thoughts, it just feels like it at times doesnt it ? The surgery suggestion is out as she wont get into the the building as she once had blood taken and that was it. Plus the fact I cant get to hospital appointments as it is almost impossible to get a time suitable when I get a few hours care. We have this awful system here where you ring a number to book an appointment to suit. They either are booked out or dont do appointments on the days you can go. Then they send me an appointment for 9.00am annd it can take 2-3 hours to get her up and showered everyday depending on her mood and OCD. Still as the saying goes , we are never sent more than we can cope with. Think that was meant as a joke . anyway still waiting an e mail reply off MP but as we know I shall be lucky to get one and replies may take weeks miracles a bit longer and in this instant probably a miracle.
May help if the sun ever shone LOL

That is a polite way of naming them in my opinion. I wouldnt care but I am having enough trouble keeping the car on the road and apart from one weekly trip to the supermarket it is there for emergencies only. As I have tried in vain and appealed I cannot get more than the lower rate of mobility. Now I have an arthritic hip, which cant be replaced as I will need somebody here for me afterwards, ha ha, there is nobody and probably never will be. A car is a necessity as I cant get my caree on a bus let alone look after myself getting on one. If anyone as much as looked at her she would probably let fly at them. Maybe thats the answer a spell in prison, warmth, food no worries, life organised and a nights sleep. Sounds better and better each time I think about it.
I still have had no reply from Liz Blackman MP for our area and you would think labour would want to help anyone at the present moment. Oh dear I forgot again we are carers and the lowest form of unpaid life, the word slavery comes to mind, but as that was abolished anyone got a replacement for it. Well had no food this week and my caree seems to have gluttony so that makes it worse, I mean even toast isnt cheap any more.
Well I am weak and tired and I do hope the council enjoyed my fine and spent it well on themselves of course, big cars, big chains and big lunches b-------.
