Does anyone know what is happening in their areas for carers week?
I am booked to go to a conference where we have a lovely dinner afterwards at lunch time then the use of the hotel swimming pool and gym. For those who were able to book up on a pamper session they have that to look forward to. Then I am doing some pots and pans thing who knows what I have let myself in for there! Then I am going for a dinner at the carers centre on the Friday to wrap up the carers week. There are other activites on through out the week here too.
Were also having media coverage to highlight carers through the radio on Newcastle BBC radio each day through out carers week.
All of this is happening in North Tyneside.
What is happening in your area and are you involved in any of the activities?

Mon 2 Jun 2008 10:132 x 2 hours (on separate days) with strawberry tea.
The 1st one has lifting & moving safely, armchair exercise, and Crossroads, but can't get there because caree has eye appt.
2nd one has foot health, carers assessment, and Making Spaces (mental health).
Hmm... think I'll just stay home and buy a load of strawberries with the saved bus fare.

Re: Carers week 9 June to 13 June
Mon 2 Jun 2008 10:30of course I will be there Greebo well this time round I will be as my son is still at school and I am making the most of the free time I have through the day. Mostly doing voluntary work in any spare time I do have.
This week my volunteering role is taking me out to the carers centre today and on wednesday shall be on a training day relating to my voluntary work. I also have to call into the office of another voluntary organisation to collect the life guard money for the swimming group which I run for children with ASD and their families; which reminds me must get more funding applications off to continue with these activities for families.
Don't know if I will be able to continue with the volunary work once my son leaves education so who knows I may be trapped for many years to come by then so making the most of it while I can.
It has only been the last three years I have been able to get out through out the day before that I was my parents carer and they were very demanding on my caring role.
If I was able to come and take care of your caree Greebo and give you a few hours off during carers week I would give up my outtings during carers week in knowing I was helping someone else.

Mon 2 Jun 2008 12:03Hi Diddy Diane
That sounds interesting, can you tell us a bit more about the Carers Charter? Is that just for Sunderland or a nationwide Carers Charter?
Is it already written or in the process.Cheryl x
