Re: carers allowance petition
Mon 24 Mar 2008 15:03Thanks carteroo
I have signed as I do beleive we need to continue in shoutting out to get things done eventually.
My only concern without trying to sound too negative is that for someone in my circumstances being a single parent and a carer for you my youngest child (now 16 years old) is that the child tax credits be reduced because we would be getting extra income if the increase in Carers Allowance was to go up to £150 per week.
£150 per week is more than my carers allowance and topped up with income support. However, if it was decided to decrease the Child Tax credits allowance then for someone in my circumstances will be no better off.
As often is said paid in one hand taken out by the other there is just no winning but I really would love to see the day where we do get a fair rate of income for what us unpaid carers do

Re: carers allowance petition
Mon 24 Mar 2008 22:44Hi, If you are allowed to work and earn £95 a week before you lose your £48.60 Carers Allowance, shouldn't you be able to keep the equivalent amount before tax credits and Benefits are affected.
i.e. like income support automatically swallowing most of the Carers allowance and state pension too - well all but a premium is paid!
Now, wouldn't that be a fairer system all around?
What do you think?marie x

Mon 24 Mar 2008 22:47Another point!
I honestly feel, if the government would just relax the overlapping benefits rule in relation to Carers Allowance it would really help eradicate Carer Poverty in one swoop!

Re: carers allowance petition
Sat 29 Mar 2008 08:19yes i agree phil:
when we were on carers and Income support, we could only earn about £15 pw not £80 (as it was then)it is wrong, i mean which advice do u follow? we were tempted to play ignorant and earn the £80 odd but thought against it in the end cos it woulda been us paying it all back (out of our carers lol)

Re: carers allowance petition
Thu 24 Apr 2008 03:04I tried to sign to petition too arghhhh
i was too late lmao!
But in adition im furious with the gournment, im never into all that to be honest but when i become a carer last year june that all changed! i bloody hate them, they all should be ashamed of themselfs, and put themselves in our shoes, but they never do all they think about is themsleves and them getting extra increases.
US carers do a job!!!! We never asked to be carers we did it out of the goodness of our hearts because its the right thing to do.
Im only 20 i was 19 when i become a carer and i have lost out on everything, but i dont regret any of it. I just wish i could do more with the person i care for. She has Usher Syndrome Type one! She going to become blind! she hasnt even seen the world! And im going to make sure she does, no matter what!
But at the end of the day! Im the one who has had to give up college full time, work part time, being with friends, money, to care for her, now government push for kids to carry into college to get a good job. And for someone like me I am doing a good job, personally im doing the best job i could ever do, and not some qualified carer who would get £250, i dont do it for the money i do it because i care. And the government dont realise this......i would love for them to go live in someone house with a disabled person, and how they feel when they come out, because i tell you now, they wouldnt be the same ever.....yet they put us down and pay us £50.55p........and they think thats enough! Im got income support before this, and as soon as i got that bloody government halfed that straight away, i couldnt believe it! that was my money and had nothing to do with caring! Even before i was a carer i worked 17-22 hours a week, yet i still got my income support! Government they dont give a damn at all and it makes me soooo mad, they do this to all of us! we work hard and with that cash in our pockets doesnt at all make any difference. Its ridiculous...I just hope one day gournment see it for themselves and put themselves in our shoes, of what us carers have to do. The Government really to get a reality check! lol .........because if they dont, theres going to be alot of complainers. And they are not going to like that. I tell you all something now, i bet anything, princess Diane would do something about it, because she had a heart of gold, god rest her soul.Sorry so long, i needed to get that of my chest lol

Re: carers allowance petition
Thu 24 Apr 2008 07:27I agree with your thoughts on princess Diana, personally noone will ever fill her shoes and the work she did,
but surely there must be someone out there in the public eye who knows exactly what its like to be a carer? someone who knows the sheer hard work involved. Katie Price, Jimmy Tarbuck are just two people who would know where we are coming from for sure
it would have to be someone with a high profile
Kerry Katona has bi polar so her hubby Mark would know what its like to be constantly on the ball and not give in to the mental and physical exhaustion, watching there new show on mtv you can actually see how mentally tired he gets. And as for Katie, yes she has a nanny to help her but she is very much hands on. Im gonna do some diggin and see if any one of the above mentioned could raise the role of the carer! dont know how little old me
could manage that but i'll give it a go eh!
