Rules in house/rules out?

Wouldn't it be nice if the government and dwp could explain why two carers are allowed outside the home, in school, college or daycare (health and safety)and paid for at a higher rate than REAL carers, yet only one person can be paid in home, just in case they can't count there are 168hrs in a week. I can't recall too many workers doing that amount legally and certainly not for 28p per hour.

aha i just said this on another chat aggie.
ive got 2 severely disabled boys. i gave up work and only got it for one. even tho i was caring for 2 unbelievable diffiuclt boys who were also very young and no speech, constant diarrhoea, me no sleep OMG you know so on and so on.......
t was £42 pw then or thereabouts. so it was £21 for me (21 for each boy) thats 8p ph.
or £42 for a 336 hr week which it was cos also my husband then worked over 100 hrs pw so i was like a single mum really, plus had 2 young daughters too at the time.
(now they're almost grown up, one at uni, one at college).
i was caring for 2 very hard children yet if they went out (which they didnt cos i had no respite at that time) they would have had two each- 4 carers and each of them on around £7 or £8 PH- that would have been £30 PH roughly for one hours care.
and i got 8p ph !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and that was the same rate all thru the night too of course- no time and a half eh!!!!!!!

Whatever way we put it lets face it we are slaves, owned by the government, have no rights and maybe we should start a "carers Union"

I resent being described as a slave owned by the Government . You might think that of yourself . My self worth is much greater than that. Utter nonsense !

Graham it's not 'utter nonsense' if people do feel that way! Oh My! emoticon

Maybe it depends where abouts you're placed on that big scale of Caring!

I really suspect, people who feel undervalued and state owned are way up at the high end of 50+ hours a week and more! Sad emoticon

I know when it's a heavy caring week, I mean, more difficult than usual, when the stress level is high and the funding is low, I've felt a bit like that too. Crying emoticon

Warning - you may find the following message boring.

Caring is not valued at all in this society. And this has been made worse in my opinion by the fact that Women's Lib was hijacked by the capitalists ie women were a nice source of cheap part time labour and the more we earn the more we spend and the more profits they make. I thought that Womens' Lib was originally supposed to gain recognition for the fact that what women did ie care for children, make a home, care for the elderly etc was as important to the proper functioning of a civilised society as going out to work. Only it should not be assumed that women were the only ones that could carry out that role, men could also be carers and women could go out to work.
But instead of men and women sharing the different roles and both roles being regarded as of equal value, caring for people, rearing children and making a home has become a non job. For most women, Women's Lib means that they are now free to do two jobs rather than one unless of course they are wealthy enough to get someone else to care for their home, their children, their old people etc (usually another badly paid women).
Things won't really change much for carers until society acknowledges that without caring there is no society - just survival of the fittest.
I know what you mean about starting a Carers Union Mo. Our love and good nature are being exploited by some pretty uncaring, shallow and materialistic people. I wish there was a political party that really valued caring, stopped talking about ladders of opportunity for the lucky and started thinking about the wellbeing of all it's citizens ie reintroduced the concept of social justice. Maybe then it would be worth going out and voting. Somehow we need as a society to start valuing caring for our fellow human beings more than we do now.

Sorry I've got my political anorak on again haven't I? Bad week - am not feeling very valued by society.
Love and peace

''

It was the above I objected to. I will not be called this by anyone. I am not a slave & am not owned by this Government or anybody else. If this is what you consider yourself to be then fair enough ! Do not however include me in this desciption. I hope I have made myself clear !!

Cheers Kerry
Long time since I've read any feminist stuff (not since I dropped out of university and ran off to London many many years ago). So after reading your message I googled on feminism and ended up reading a load of stuff on Material Feminism. More interesting than working (I work partly from home on the computer) and good to use the old grey cells again (I haven't read much this year because I've found it hard to concentrate). Certainly makes a change from trying to think of ways of persuading my husband that it isn't God who has told him not to take his pills!! Although I think on balance the latter is slightly more challenging.
best wishes
