Are we safe to Care

After just seeing that Ms B.Spears who hasnt slept for FIVE days,(Is that all) is a risk to herself and others. What a lucky person she has been taken somewhere that she will be cared for. We on the other hand can go for a lot longer than this with no sleep and does anybody care. When we are desperate for a nights sleep and have to carry on caring for a very difficult person and keep ourselves sane, does anybody come out of the woodwork and say a word. Of course not, and then the SS speak out with such surprise when we injure ourself or another albeit by accident or because we no longer can carry on. IT HAPPENS and they wonder why. We are all human too do politicians care, do the SS care, does anyone care ??????Do they hell.

Hi Mo,
u do have a point.
I must admit that on the tragic story of heath ledger he had previously stated in an interview that he was having trouble sleeping due to his inability to 'switch off' from his role in the new batman movie and had therefore been prescribed sleeping pills which only worked for 2 hrs per night.
Now obviously what happened was awful for him, his family and especially his little daughter, but i couldnt help thinking, hey welcome to my world!!!!!
the only difference being that he had short term problems... whereas ours go on and on and on......

never mind, just shows we are all tougher than the hollywood lala land in habitants at least!!!!

Hi Kerry,
Isnt it just as well, the thought of men in white coats carting me off for a couple of weeks "respite" in a posh clinic sounds like bliss. Unfortunately the press wouldnt give a damn and nobody would have a photographer chasing us and putting carers on the front page of newspapers. "Neglected by governments, ignored by the media and they deserve it for being so silly as to care" These people are kept in poverty and deserve what they get,why cant they be like us MPs and claim all the tax free expenses they like without proof.
Tell you what Kerry, I look a damn sight better than that poor girl and I never get more than two hours a night if I get that. It was one hour last night. So tired I cant get in the car and drive to get some shopping for the weekend, just about enough petrol until the end of next week too. What a waste. Hope you all have a nice sleep free weekend

.

and it is not just the level of exhaustion which carers suffer many of us are doing our caring role without the supervision of health and safety. If we were to do the caring role in a paid employment situation I am sure most of us would not be allowed to continue in paid employment i.e. handling and moving..... monitoring medication........ the list goes on and on

Hi all, I know what it's like with disrupted sleep patterns over a long time.
I coped alone for over 20 years without a full nights sleep, when we eventually decided to get some help in, Social services were shocked I coped so long alone.

They have no idea do they???

I was asked why i didn't ask for help before and I said if we hadn't hit a major crisis I wouldn't have considered it.
I wouldn't even have known it was available.. just like most other Carers!

We now get 2 nights a week so i can sleep and it makes such a difference.
It's still a struggle but I can plan 'sleep' time and that alone makes it easier.
Before this it was snatched sleep if and when I could just like loads of other Carers! Sad emoticon

To all the other zombies out there, I am sure the SS are well aware of the conditions we exist under, but like all the other services they work inside a box and like all paid workers get to go home after a days work and have some "me" time. Infortunately for us it is a luxury and one that you only get when you have any strength in you to fight for it. The problem is of course that the authorities do not always provide the care that is required.
Maybe one day one of them will actually wake up and see what is under their noses, when ther people caring become in the minority because we are all so worn out and both physically and mentally exhausted we really cant go on.
What is really needed is the right sort of publicity. The sort that shows carers as they really are, not the ones used on tv dressed and made up and looking like they dont know the meaning of a sleepless night, let alone every night sleepless. The general public need to see the real nitty gritty of our lives , such as they are, to remember we are humans with needs too not machines to crank up with false promises all the time. They need structure and somebody in charge who knows what we do and what we go through, not a "yes" man or woman, who is only there for the big fat wage and expenses they get.
I wonder if any MP reads these forums or really cares.

so what do we do?
we keep saying were gonna march on no 10, maybe we should???????????????
Of course we gotta fit it around everything else eg caring, in some cases working, for me FT uni, and a million other things but lets face it guys.... if we can do what we do and still function(if only just) and still have opinions and still keep our emotional chin up (at least most of the time) then surely a march on no 10 will be a walk in the park!!!!!!

i getr asked so many times what is a normal day for you and i kinda go... "erm...well.... erm... "- does anyone know what i mean?
this is so 'normal' that i cant even imagine it not being like this.

sorry guys... im sooooo tired at the moment and the day isnt nearly over yet as its 6.45pm and still dinner to cook, eat, clear up, boys to bath, teeth, bed etc etc...(which in iteself is a nightmare battle where we get screamed at punched spat at etc)
house to tidy....
blah blah blah
and probably 4 hrs sleep if we are lucky and then uni all day tomo, plus tescos plus everything else...
all before the boys get home

Im so tired and hungry cos i aint had time to eat yet (this is first sit down so far!) i shoved (and i mean shoved) a cake down my throat about 2 hrs ago just to stop myself passing out. i was so shaky.

anyway whingin over...
tomorrows another day (even if its groundhog day eh)

still smiling!
