No wonder uk people die on NHS waiting lists.
No wonder my Mother can't have NHS treatment to save the sight in one.
No wonder they can't afford to support and pay Carers a decent amount.Uk PM announces 825 million Pound package for India.
India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
It's arms budget is in excess of our NHS budget.Who do you think needs this 825 million of uk tax payers money most?

Re: No Wonder!!!
Tue 22 Jan 2008 10:40I so agree and its not just India. We are far too fond as a country of looking big in the eyes of thew world, then hiding our own poverty and the people like us who live it and have to survive. I am sick of hearing of rescue packages to Africa, who have the richest governments in the world, but allow their people to live in poverty. When is this charity going to be reciprocated. Now that would be a headline, India send millions to help UK Carers LOL. Amazing isnt it, but they dont mind living off our tax payers. Political maybe, but true. I am sure this will be discreetly moved down the list away from the main headlines dont you ?

I don't understand how they can justify sending tax payers money out of the country when therr is poverty and need here in the UK. If there wasn't, fair enough. They make out that these are complex issues,
but they aren't complex at all. Look after your own first.
I wouldn't dream of giving away money etc to others and at the same time tell my family "No you can't have this or that, we can't afford it!"
What's complex about that? What really cracks me up is how pleased with himself Gordon Brown looks when he announces he's sending ex amount of aid to another country!!! Is he real?

Re: No Wonder!!!
Tue 22 Jan 2008 15:15He, like all politicians are about as useful and real as chocolate teapots. They are fine with their big wages and expense accounts, something people like us can only dream about. They think it makes them look good to help other nations. What they do no see is the resentment felt by those of us her struggling to live and juggling bills and food and which we should pay for. They do not have that worry , maybe some kind TV channel would make a documentary on real carers and real poverty, here at home, or maybe they dont have the guts to do it, that sounds more like it. Iwonder if the poor person with mice who couldnt afford the £39 for the council man to come actually applied to this trust for help and got it. Where did all the charity money go. This is surely a deserving case and one of you should have replied to and helped this woman. Maybe you are in with Mr Brown and sending it to foreign shores instead??????

Charity should begin at home.

Re: No Wonder!!!
Wed 23 Jan 2008 17:53Sorry But I can't agree with you on this. When I see pictures of women in other countries holding thier starving children
it goes through me. I can't imagine anything worse than not being able to feed your child - have to watch them starve to death (and I don't have to be a mother to know that). I know some poor countries have corrupt regimes and I think you have to be very carerful how you target aid but this country has and consumes far more than its fair share of the world's resources. I totally agree with you that carers in this country deserve much better but I think you are hitting out at the wrong target. It's the rich undeserving that deserve your censure not the poor. Sorry!! I don't mean to offend anyone but just because someone is in another country doesn't mean they're not my fellow human being.

Wed 23 Jan 2008 19:42Hi Angelica
I'm not offended , neither am I hitting out at anyone. True we are all fellow human beings.
The poor in the UK are just as much victims of the bombs and bullets government mindset as the poor in India.
But still it seems to me an odd way of running the economy of a country to tell the people living here, Carers who loose their homes, and are forced to self fund their caring role by living off their savings etc for instance, then send 100's of millions to other countries who are also putting bombs and bullets before caring for their impoverished population. This latest 825 million to India is the tip of the iceberg. And India is a rich country too.
If every leader of every country concerned themselves with looking after their own peoples
welfare there wouldn't be any starving children,
poverty wouldn't exist, the elderly would be looked after, Carers would be supported and cared for.
As I see it, it is our money and taxes that the government are "spending" if we don't challenge what we don't agree with, they'll go on "spending" our money as they please.Would you tell your family they can't have something because you decide to send your money to India?
That is what the politicians in this country are doing to Carers and loads of UK needy people.Cheryl X

Re: No Wonder!!!
Thu 24 Jan 2008 01:07Hi Cheryl
We are the fifth richest economy in the world (or is it sixth I know we've just slipped down a place). Quite honestly I don't mind my money going to poor people in other countries or to poor people in this country. (When I was working full time I gave a monthly amount to Unicef). I hear what you're saying about corrupt governments and like you I do object to my money being spent on bombs and bullets. (Think of the billions that have been spent on the war in Iraq and more heartbreakingly all those poor people who have been killed or injured). I also object to billions of pounds of public money ending up in the pockets of private consultants, people sitting on quangoes etc. Wealth in this country and globally is very unfairly distributed and doesn't reflect what people contribute or deserve. There are a lot of people in this country who are what my old aunt would have called 'very comfortable off'. If we are to have better services and more help for carers taxes need to go up but I can't see that being a vote winner. It's all about haves and have nots. And the rich owners of the newspapers are more interested in the poor blaming the poor. (As a percentage of our national wealth we give a miniscule amount in Aid abroad)
That's my opinion and I respect yours. Thanks for the discussion.
I and my political anorak are going to bed now.
Love and peace

Re: No Wonder!!!
Thu 24 Jan 2008 10:05I think Cheryl is only expressing the anger and frustration felt by most carers that the Government always find money for causes other than for the most needy in this country.
George Bush wants help with a war- no problem
Prisoners want more luxuries----------no problem
Immigrants want benefits to send home--no problem
Send money to "poor" countries -----No problem
Give the vulnerable in this country enough to live on --No chance
Make care homes fit for human habitation--No chance
The list could go on -and it will until there is a complete rethink and do gooders go out of fashion.

Re: No Wonder!!!
Thu 24 Jan 2008 10:41I do agree with most of what is said, but must reiterate charity begins at home, Well it should do. I hate to see starving children, but have you ever asked yourself how mothers with no food manage to sustain a pregnancy without miscarriage if they are so under -nourished. I am afraid I dont buy it. They are certainly eating themselves,or they wouldnt be pregnant in the first place. I think a lot if it is propoganda and lets face it a lot of these countries certainly know how to spread that to their advantage.
Lets look after our own and keep their population down, why not implant contraception under their skin to prevent births of children they presume will die without food, instead of sending nourishment to encourage it. Where do they get the energy from to conceive thats what I would like to know.

Thu 24 Jan 2008 14:13Mo,
A woman is raped in South Africa every 17 seconds. This does not include the number of child rape victims. It is estimated that one in every two women would be raped.
I don't think the women have much choice about becoming pregnant.

Re: No Wonder!!!
Fri 25 Jan 2008 08:56When I read this website I am touched by peoples' courage, love, humour, selflessness and anger at injustice. Ignoring the negative connotations of the 'phrase do-gooder' that is what we carers are doing. And what a rubbish world it would be if no one cared. It's just that for some of us the compassion doesn't end at Calais.
Love and peace
