Lets face it how many carers use this web site?
we need to target the carers who say nothing to get them identified
so any suggestions how this can be done

i think it would be a good start if gps,ss,hospitals made people who have become carers aware of this website,by forwarding their names, under strict confidence to the local carers center on behalf of the carer, so's that they could possibly pay them a home visit, and help them become aware of the help available, i found out about this site after my husband passed away, although i was aware of the local center i was unable to get there at the time, due to the pressures of the careing roll involved.
i think a visit from a friendly experienced excarer would be a welcome sight.

Thu 20 Dec 2007 13:53I think a great many of us find the cost of the internet a struggle and have to balance the cost, on top of our time , I know I feel like a jack in the box most of the time. A lot of people who are not computer literate are unable to cope with it. Maybe some free access for us all would be good, but have a cat in hells chance of getting it, I mean if we cant eat properly or keep warm what use is a computer

Re: local carers centres
Thu 20 Dec 2007 16:22i work with carers of people with mental health problems & found my role was not advertised enough so carers where unaware of what benefits where available to them from my job. I wrote an information leaflet and advertised in day centres, gp's, hospitals, carers centres etc i also attended team meetings ( mental health teams) to explain any up & coming events and to ensure the team where passing the word out to the carers, this way carers where contacting me on a regular basis & I was able to identify new carers. hope this helps.
