Re: New carers website WORTH A L@@K AT!!!
Sun 2 Dec 2007 12:35No joke .... okay for the believers , but not for the infidel masses ...... which are sure to grow after the Report is published.
After all , all discussions leading to the Report are being conducted by the Voice ( on behalf of their 7,000 members ) .... the remaining X million carers can only wait for the outcome. Their representatives are on all Boards , you'll find no carers on any of them.
If carers are to be thrown scraps , the Voice will take the credit regardless of what the mass of carers decide. If even scraps are not forthcoming , all the mass of carers can expect is " At least , we tried our best ".
..... and where will that leave X million carers ? Even deeper in the mire for , perhaps , a generation.
Just what Mandate do they have have to represent carers ? Anyone vote for them ?
Democracy in action ........ carers style ???????????

Sun 2 Dec 2007 14:25Hands up all carers who voted for the Voice to represent them in consultations with the Government and \ or any other arms of the Social Care system.
No one ? I rest my case.

Tue 4 Dec 2007 01:25Yes, I voted for the Voice and paid my subs, this year, and for the last 15 years. At least they are run by carers, for carers, and have 8,000 real members. Do you have a problem with that? If so, pray tell?

Re: New carers website WORTH A L@@K AT!!!
Wed 5 Dec 2007 18:118,000 ....... representing X million carers ?
I do have a problem with any Organisation ( political \ social \ charity ) that purports to speak \ act for all when , in reality , they do not.
Next time the Voice sit at a table representing carers , it would be democratic for them to receive a majority vote from carers to do so ?
Under Charity Law , they are NOT so empowered to take on a " trade union " type activity , and yet they freely take part in the political decision making ( which affects every carer ) WITHOUT a mandate from the majority of carers.
Funny old world ........ it ain't.

Re: New carers website WORTH A L@@K AT!!!
Wed 5 Dec 2007 19:22Are the Voice representing us , or the government ?
Perhaps Emily would think again if she had to survive on the same income as an average carer ?
"We have already had the comprehensive spending review for the next three years, and the Department for Work and Pensions has had cutbacks so what it has to spend is not a bottomless pot," says Emily Holzhausen, head of policy and public affairs at Carers UK. "We will need the next four to 10 years to get the commitment on spending and get the right legislation. I know people want change tomorrow, but to get extra money into carers' pockets takes that long."

Re: New carers website WORTH A L@@K AT!!!
Tue 22 Jan 2008 17:18Oh I thought this one was carers uk! I Oops
dont know anything about 'the voice'- never heard of it, what is it then?I do know though, that with the increase in carers over the next few years, things must change.
Soon there will be more people as informal carers than employed in other services!
Maybe every one will suddenly rise up and revolt haha, Well i would if I had the energy!
And thats what the govt rely on- our exhaustion and the fact that generally we have emotional ties to the person/s in our care.
And if we all threw up our arms and said oh sod it, I dont care anymore, we would be vilified by the rest of society as being unnatural and heartless, so...
Cant win really then eh. Might as well shoot me now
