Euthanasia is no longer a crime in the UK.

I have a combination of chronic deceases and have my medication and water and food via my percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy aka ‘PEG.’

We have been told that we do not qualify for carers allowance because my wife earns too much. There are 168 hours in a week and to pay for the specialist care I need 24/7 we are now in more debt than the USA.

At an appeal we were told that they could not help I asked that if that is the case and if my wife spends 50% of her income on looking after me that once that limit is reached then I can die due to no one being able to give me class A drugs etc., via my PEG.

The tribunal said that legally yes the law does allow me to die and my family would not be held legally responsible.

I'm at a loss to know what to say about this. I suspect others feel the same as you have not had a response from other carers.
Carers allowance is not for people in full time work. It is a pittance of course but such as it is your wife certainly won't qualify for it if she is doing a full time job. If you are in need of specialist care 24/7 who is caring for you whilst your wife works & are they in receipt of carers allowance for looking after you ?
Passing away has nothing to do with the law. Euthanasia is an entirely different thing. Are you saying you are being 'Euthanised' by the state just because your wife ( in full time work ) is not in receipt of carers allowance ? I think we need some clariffication here of the true situation before fellow carers can give some proper sensible advice....

Hello TJLM
Has your GP mentioned Continuing Care Funding from your PCT? This is specifically for those requiring on-going healthcare, is NOT meanstested in any way and should be accessible to you and your wife for your care.
Also your PCT should have Specialist Help for conditions such as your - try contacting your local PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) at your nearest hospital - your surgery will have details

Do hope this may be of help,
Best wishes

Hi, TJLM,

I'm so sorry to read about your troubles.

LP is right. If any care is needed as a by-product of surgery/nursing, it should be provided free of charge. However, local authorities and the NHS try to wriggle out of their commitments if they can.

Since you have had a negative response from your appeal, might I suggest you contact your MP and ask him/her to look into it? It sounds as though you may qualify for payments to be refunded.

I sincerely hope all turns out well for you and your wife, and do let us know how you get on.

Best wishes,
Pysie
