I was also on BBCs Working Lunch the day before representing all the Carers in the UK.
Today I was appauled at Emelda Redmond looking so uncomfortable.
Anybody can go on there and say 'that is too complicated I havnt enough info' Phone this number or that number. Get in touch with your local council or social services!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What help is that?
And what is all this agreeing we are on £42 Carers Allowance.
This interview just shows that you do not even know what you are talking about Ms Redmond.
Perhaps you should listen more to us Carers. perhaps you should resign and we can have some one who cares about the 6 million Carers in this country who are going to soon be in the poverty trap.
I know I am not alone in these thoughts.
I would also like to thank Working Lunch for trying their hardest to get information out of Ms Redmond and for correcting her on her mistakes

Re: Working Lunch
Mon 30 Jan 2006 17:22The reason Imelda Redmond say that 'it is too complicated I have not enough information' is that the interviewer talked about a detailed case. Ms Redmond gave the correct response which is to seek specific help and ensure issues such as entitlement to Carer's Allowance are addressed. There is simply not time on Working Lunch to go into detailed cases - there would be not enough time to get over other important messages which carers tell us are important to them. As an organisation of carers all our work is bbased on listening to carers, including our members who are carers themselves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Imelda Redmond says carers are furious because that is her role - to say she is personally furious would be steping outside her role. Carers UK members go on the tv and radio and say they are individually furious.
Are you suggesting that Carers UK supports the existing level of Carers Alowance?. We do not and have said so at every opportunity, including in our response to the Green Paper on Incapacity Benefit reform on 25 January. It is on this website. Our position is that we want Carer's Allowance raised in line with similar benefits to the rate of the State Pension.
The reason that Imelda asked people to contact CAB is because to address an individual case would have taken up the entire slot, rahter addressing the ten questions which she had been asked to address.

It is not really appropriate to post your personal messages up on the boards, please refrain from doing so in the future,
Thanks

Re: Working Lunch
Wed 1 Feb 2006 23:23Hold on a minute, that's what message boards are for aren't they? To post things that concern you "as a Carer"
It's not as if he posted a message saying a hosted chat was to be held on another board now was it? That would be crass without asking first I would have thought?
