DLA

As many of you will know the stress I was under when my son's DLA was due for renewal.

I have got the letter this morning at first thought it was child benefit as it was addressed from Belfast. It contains the best news I have had in a long time.

He has been awarded the current rate indefinately (I am aware that they can ask for a update at any time) But it is such a huge relief now I can breath.

A huge thank you to all of those who have had to put up with my moaning about it over the last couple of months

Me & him

I really do hope you have good news soon.

I had been dreading the letter arriving through the front door. I thought it was Child Benefit so did not think twice about opening it. When I first opened it the mobility was the first part which he is getting the lower rate (I agree to that as he can walk but needs support when out and about) It was when I saw the lower rate I thought oh no I can't believe that until I re read the letter and realised it was the mobility part and he got the high rate care which is what I believe he qualifies for. So huge relief.

Do you include contact details of who assessed you for the adaptions to your home in the DLA application? I make the application as graphic as possible and try to leave no stone unturned when filling out the forms. Please let me know the outcome when you do get it Me&him.

The first time I applied for my son when he was under 5 years old I was told he was not entitled to anything. Back then who ever did the reference did not put in a statement the way they do now. I contacted the person who was the reference and they informed me that they had not heard fromt he DLA so I wrote back to the DLA asking how they can come to the conclusion that my son disability did not warrent DLA when they had not got the full picture by requesting a statement from the reference. We were awarded middle rate care and low rate mobility.

Then when we had the review and I put in his application I stated how he was up for many an hour through the night and the obsession with fire. The rules had changed to where if a person is up through the night you were entitled to high rate. I got awarded middle rate. When I wrote to ask for an explaination I was informed that my house was safer through the night than through the day. I wrote back for an explaination and stated I would be informing social services with this letter as it amounted to gross neglect should I decide not to see to my son through the night (not forgetting I mentioned his siblings I had to keep him quiet as they needed their rest or I would of been in trouble with his siblings schools) Also I would be seeking legal advice should I not have acknowledgement within 7 days.

We got high rate care within the week
