well ive had anither day of hassel again today.
I had to get paramedics in last night as ian went into spasm and slid off the chair,
i was unabkle to get him up! today i asked his carers to shower him after 2 accidents in the night ,
they started to do this and again he went into spasm and promptly slid off the shower chair!
paramedics again! but now they have said that we havnt got the correct equipment for shower, ie hoist, sling, and shower chair.
well guess what i dodnt bloody know this
ian has only been home from hosp for 3 weeks and all this should have been bloody done by the OT, MS Nurse, Social Worker,
but i guess they have got it all wrong again
the only peple that regualrly look after ian that are any good are the district nurses
i wish someone could spend a day here and see the problems we face and brick wallls we come up against and maybe , just maybe they would get it right.
thanks for listening and letting me let off steam yet again

Fri 29 Aug 2008 14:59Hi Kate
This won't help you but just to let you know you're not alone. It's not the actual physical caring that wears you down-it's the constant battle to get the so called professionals to do their job. It's sometimes as though they are there simply to make our job so much harder.
Keep the anger boiling--it's the only thing that gets you through sometimes.
All the best -Ken

Fri 29 Aug 2008 15:44hello Kate
I'm so sorry that things haven't picked up for you-I often say I wish Marks mum or other people that comment things like "your lucky-you dont have to go to work etc etc
could spend a full 48 hours with him and see what it's like to get up during the night, to change the bed or take him to the loo for the umteenth time.
Can you not call social services yourself and make a referral for the OT to come out? I do that when Marks needs change and on one occasion when I was desperate they came out 2 days later. I know equipment has to be ordered specially sometimes but your situation isn't exceptable and maybe you should suggest that Ian go back into hospital until things are sorted PROPERLY.Just one thing to make you feel better we had two paramedic callouts recently in swift succession and got the same paramedics!! I was so apologetic about them coming "just" to get Mark off the floor and they were cross with me because I apologised.Apparently elederly and disabled are priority after life threatening emergencies. One paramedic told me that they regularly get called out to people who are just drunk and are time wasters and he said it was so nice to see someone like myself caring for my partner and coping so well - honestly!! Don't ever worry about ringing them and don't try lifting Ian alone-you already said you have a bad back and you don't want to end up in hospital with a slipped disc or even worse.all the best Debz xx
