I just had a visit from a government official offering wall insulation and attic insulation for free if you or any family member is on certain benefits. He also told me that if my central heating boiler ever needed replacing the government do that as well for free. But your not told about that , you have to ask. Who asks the government if they will give you a new boiler? Anyway its worth knowing for reference.

Re: Old Boiler !!
Fri 13 Jun 2008 22:15I got a letter through the post informing me of the Warmseal grant which offers free wall insulation and loft insulation. It also had information it about replacing the boiler.
I contacted them about my boiler as I knew it was about to be condemed (sometime this year due to a legislation thingy). I got it replaced within four weeks also got thermerstats put on all the radiators in the bedrooms also got all the radiators treated in the house as well. Over the winter I noticed a huge difference for the better.
Now am just waiting to see if I ever hear about new window as I still have old wooden window frames where as the rest of my street have replaced theirs.

Re: Old Boiler !!
Sat 14 Jun 2008 10:59We had the loft and cavity wall insulation done a few years ago following a letter using a DLA mailing list, which is when we first heard about them. Then 2 years ago we had our 30 year old boiler replaced.
The scheme is called Warm Front, here is the link:

Re: Old Boiler !!
Sun 15 Jun 2008 00:16The boiler here (installed approx 1976 when the flat was built) was replaced to the modern condensing type last November. It wasn't free under Warm Front, it was free because this is a council flat and the old boiler was beyond all hope of repair.
It made quite a big difference to the fuel bill for the last 2 quarters, and we've got more storage space because the new boiler heats water on demand instead of having a hot water tank.. More room in the boiler cupboard too, because it doesn't need a header tank.

Sun 15 Jun 2008 22:36Hi Val,
we got a HEES grant (Wales) a couple of years back- they insulated the loft and walls, and installed a new boiler too which they check every year.
We were told that other benefits you get equivalent of £1,500 but if you or someone in the house gets DLA you get £2,700 which covers the boiler.
Got it in Kent too, same deal with Warm front.
