Carer Living in Sheltered Accommodation

I'm in the process of applying for a two bed property so I can care for my mother. We have been offered a place in a sheltered housing scheme but due to my age (40) not meeting the criteria, their legal department need to consider whether they will let me reside there. There has been talk of them producing a waiver for me to sign , agreeing that i won't attempt to claim tenant's rights once my mum has died,
Has anyone hear of an agreement like this before?
I've been waiting a couple of weeks to hear from them so I'm assuming they're working on the waiver and am trying not to give up hope!!!

Wed 4 Jun 2008 22:43How silly is that rule? If you have cared for someone living in for two months you have the legal right to stay in the property or be rehoused by the council in a property suitable for your needs.
We were faced with a similar situation some years ago before the rules were changed as my OH qualified by need and age but I am 15 years younger than him... Naturally he wanted to be sure if anything happened to him I would be safe in the tenancy. When the HA said we had to sign a waiver we told them we didn`t want the let, but stayed on the waiting list and eventually got a ground floor flat from the LA
Best of luck, and keep nagging at them.
